As the school year comes to an end, students have some compelling opportunities to look forward to over the summer. Passaic Valley offers a variety of summer camps and productions for children and teens in the area. The programs present a wide range of activities, from culinary classes to performing arts to STEM. There is a program perfect for everyone and registration is open now. Student constructed rollercoasters from the STEAM Camp; photo credit: Mr. Sanders

Every year since 2002, PV’s Summer Theater Program holds open auditions for the two productions presented at the end of each summer. Auditions for the summer productions are held shortly after the spring production, which will debut May 9th this year. The junior production, Shrek Jr., is held for incoming 5th graders through graduating 8th graders in the area and will debut August 3rd and 4th. The main stage production, Zombie Prom, is for incoming 9th graders through soon-to-be graduating seniors and will debut on July 25-27th. According to Miss Jennifer Shue, Guidance Counselor and Director of PV’s Summer Theater Program, the amount of students who audition tends to vary depending on how popular the production is. For example, the previous summer production of RENT attracted a large number of actors and actresses due to its popularity.

PV also offers the Summer Program for the Performing Arts. From music, dance, and art classes to makeup and crafts, there’s so much to explore. Most of the classes are taught by teachers and staff from PV, but some classes are instructed by alumni. The camp will run from July 1st - 26th on Mondays through Thursdays from 8:30 am to 1pm. Registration is open to students going into 4th grade through high school. Director Mike DeLuccia encourages all interested students to visit the program's website for more information.

Mrs. Zuzana Geleta hosts the "Cooking Camp" for the Culinary Summer Program. She helps young students prepare delicious meals from scratch as well as giving them an insight into the basics of the culinary world. Geleta also has the students make a variety of desserts, competing against each other in friendly competitions. This camp is open to incoming 6th graders through the Class of 2020. Camp begins on June 27th and runs through July 5th from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. Interested parties should contact Mrs. Geleta for more information and registration.

Mr. Randall Sanders, science teacher and STEM Explorations instructor, is in charge of the popular science oriented camp. The STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) Summer Program is going on it’s third successful year. Students can look forward to starting some exciting space camp activities this summer. Last year, students worked on robotics and engineering their own projects. The STEAM program in general is an excellent way for students to explore science and express their creativity through engineering. STEAM Camp is open to incoming 5-8th grades and runs from July 1st through the 25th from 1:30 to 3:30 pm. Parents can register their children through the link above.

Having summer opportunities at PV is a great way for students to participate and explore new activities that they may not have been able to do during the school year.
