Throughout each year, the Music Department hosts three concerts in the Schneider Auditorium. This upcoming Wednesday, May 22, the annual Pops concert will be held at 7 pm. The yearly Art Show will also be held that night as well as PV’s introduction of “The Hornet Hackathon” inviting 3rd to 8th grade students to join for STEAM activities, game programming and more. The concert consists of performances by the Choir, Jazz Band, Concert Band, and the Hornet Harmonics, the a cappella group.
The Pops Concert is the final concert of the year. This concert is directed by Ms. Pia Vanderstreet, Choir and A cappella Director, and Mr. Michael Deluccia, Director of Bands. In contrast to other concerts held throughout the year, the Pops Concert provides a more lively, modern take on the music being performed.
This year's theme is "Stage and Screen" which will include music from popular movies to theater productions. Audiences can also look forward to a few featured solo performances by students. "For the band performances, we're trying to focus on the more popular medleys," Deluccia mentioned.
According to Mr. Deluccia, the Jazz Band has a tradition during every Pops Concert to play a song by the widely admired singer-songwriter, Bruno Mars. This year we can look forward to a performance of the popular song, "Finesse".
Audiences have much to look forward to in regards to performances. But upperclassmen performers also eagerly anticipate the special night. "Being that the Pops Concert is the last concert held for the year, it is a really nice opportunity for the seniors to have their last hurrah and experience their final moment on the PV music stage," Vanderstreet exclaimed.
