To kick off graduation week, PV will launch a unique Spirit Week from June 17-21st. Students and staff will be wearing PV apparel throughout the week. Furthermore, lawn signs for the Class of 2019 and alumni are available for purchase from the home page.
Superintendent Dr. JoAnn Cardillo first had the idea to rally former students to support PV seniors and display their pride for their high school alma mater. "We are reaching out in the spring for alumni to celebrate the Spirit of PV throughout each of our communities. We also want to celebrate our current graduates and their transition to alumni status," said Cardillo, explaining her hope for this initiative to become tradition. "My vision for this project is that it become an annual tradition that everyone gets their signs and puts them out every year during graduation week. They can use them over and over."
These lawn signs will be customized to match the alumni's graduating classes. The PV community encourages alumni to display these signs throughout Spirit Week and graduation. This final Spirit Week of the 2018-19 school year will allow all community members to display their Hornet Pride as one. Furthermore, this is also a great send-off to graduating seniors.
“Our goal is to flood the triboro area with lawn signs to show our spirit. It’s a great way to show our love for PV,” Ms. Jennifer Shue, who is helping craft the signs through Collegemania/Club Shue Inc., stated. "[A further goal] is to promote PV. We want all the wonderful alumni that have come through these doors to be proud and show their support!"
Participating in community-driven initiatives like Spirit Week sends a positive and encouraging message to the surrounding area and welcomes incoming freshman into the Hive. Getting involved shows people that #PVistheplacetobe!
Proceeds from the sale of apparel will go to the Class of 2019.
Proceeds from the sale of lawn signs will contribute to the fundraiser from the Education Foundation to help with the Library Restoration Project. Members of the community wish to contribute to the fundraiser but are not alumni or miss the deadline to order may send checks to the Education Foundation, Attention: Mike DeLuccia, with "library" in the subject line. More information about the Library Restoration Project can be found at the link above.
Apparel and lawn signs will be available for purchase through May 31st.
