For the annual production of Girls’ Show, which took place on February 28, 2020, students from Passaic Valley partnered with Think Reel Films, a local production company, for the filming and live broadcast to Vimeo in high definition and to local public access stations in standard definition. It was the first time PV collaborated with Think Reel Films for Girls’ Show’s production. The partnership also provided broadcasting students an opportunity to work alongside industry professionals in a structured learning experience (SLE).

Supervisor of Career and Technical Education, Ms. Patricia Palmiere, explained the partnership provided students with an “opportunity to participate in a work-basePVTV; Property of @pvhsuper d learning experience”. The “students gained real-world experience working with broadcasting professionals in planning and delivering a live broadcast”.

PVTV students were able to expand their knowledge on different aspects of broadcast and media. “The partnership with Think Reel Films was beneficial because students received small group instruction to set up and run equipment that is new to them in a remote environment by professionals,” said broadcasting teacher and head of PVTV, Ms. Stephanie Roberts, who also had a large role in the pre-production. Students were divided into roles that included included camera operators, audio technicians, technical directors, and producers. PVTV; Property of @pvhssuper

The students involved also understood the value of the experience of working with Think Reel Films. “It was great to learn the proper way to use all the equipment and how to do things in a professional way,” said Alexandra Paese ‘21, a student in both the Broadcasting Experience and TV Production. “I learned how to properly be a producer and work with others, while doing the thing I love.”

After the production of Girls’ Show, Think Reel Films is continuing its partnership with PVTV through post-production editing. PV is excited to continue working alongside Think Reel Films. “Their team’s industry insight and guidance will assist Passaic Valley as we continue to advance our CTE Broadcasting Program of Study,” said Ms. Palmiere.
