The new history teacher was also named head coach for freshman football. The freshman team has grown immensely as a result of Smith’s experience as a football player and all the work he has put into this team.

Smith is a 2014 PV graduate, where he played football and baseball. He was a First Team All Conference Offensive Lineman and the baseball captain. Coach Smith has stepped into this position with a great deal of knowledge and experience.

Football “I was really excited, I've been waiting to be a coach here and teach here,” says Coach Smith, who is very proud of his team and how far they have come. Although he wants to win, coach Smith’s main priority is to ensure his players are ready to advance onto JV and Varsity.

Smith is grateful for this opportunity to be head coach and to have the ability to continue teaching young athletes with the same passion. “This opportunity has benefited me greatly. I’m back at the school I played football and baseball at and I'm getting to teach and coach all the kids that are coming to PV”, says Smith.Mr. Stephen Smith playing football; property of Stephen Smith

"Stephen Smith is a young coach with a lot of energy. He has a passion for Passaic Valley and is a real part of this community,” says Varsity Coach Chet Parlavecchio, who is enthusiastic to have Mr. Smith as a new addition to his coaching staff. “The great thing about Mr. Smith is he always realizes there is something to learn.”

The players on this team look forward to finishing out the season on a strong note. They are improving each game and most recently took home a victory this past Saturday against Eastside at home. The positive spirit, encouragement and hard work Coach Smith has instilled into his team has made for an unforgettable season for himself and his players. “Having Mr. Smith as a coach has been nothing but great," says quarterback Ronnie Manfredo. "He has helped me improve my skills as a player and quarterback and I am confident I will be successful as a varsity player.”
