Costanzo & Lambert Crowned Top Chefs 2018

Top Chef 2018 lived up to it's hype as 6 pairs of students battled it out to create the most appetizing dishes. Seniors Gabby Lambert and Nick Costanzo won but all finalists were treated to a field trip in New York City.
Lambert and Costanzo received an $80 prize for their accomplishment. The finalists' dishes can be seen in the photograph below.
The winning team reached beyond their comfort zone to snag their victory. "Gabby Lambert and I had the winning dish with steak, roast potatoes, and spinach," said Costanzo. "We never made steak in Culinary, so we shocked a lot of people with that. Afterwards, we gave out a banana custard."
Though there can only be one winner, all participants are grateful for the exciting (and delicious) experience. “Making it this far with my partner Vinny [Brigati '18] was expected," said Andy Rodriguez, who had dreams of taking home the title of Top Chef. "Unfortunately, we didn't win, but we had a bunch of fun in the competition.”
After the winners were crowned, all finalists took part in a unique field trip. They were a part of a hands on demonstration at a private dining club on Park Avenue in New York City. Students were greeted by Executive Chef Bill Decker and given aprons and chef hats. Decker explained to the students the importance of sanitation in the food industry, guided them through different knife techniques, and even showed how to bone fresh whole salmon.
Afterward, students prepared their lunch under the guidance of professional chefs. They prepared chicken parmesan, salad, pasta and fruit salad. This trip would not be possible without the help of the Education Foundation, that sponsors the competition every year, and Mr. Mike Paternoster, who put Mrs. Geleta in contact with Chef Decker who donates his valuable time and services to our students.
