Passaic Valley Theater is wrapping up its rehearsals for their annual Fall Show Lend Me A Tenor, on stage October 24th, 25th, and 26th. The comedy is Director Ms. Pia Vanderstreet's first play in that role.Lend Me a Tenor cast; photo credit: Chris Krusberg

A comedy written by Ken Ludwig, Lend Me A Tenor follows as a very interesting day for the manager of an opera company and his assistant as they try to ensure their production, featuring a world-famous tenor, goes smoothly. The play tackles complex themes, like human behavior, with comedy and music.

“As a musician by trade, I thought it would be fun to incorporate music into my PV directorial debut,” said Ms. Vanderstreet, explaining why she chose this particular production.

Cast and crew have been working hard for the past month and are ready to perform for a live audience. This year, Ms. Vanderstreet is joined by a few other new staff members, including PV's Multimedia Technician Robert Whethem and Set Designer Stephen Sallach.

While this is Ms. Vanderstreet's first time at the helm for a PV play, she has past experience as a director. "So, I was thrilled to hop into the directors chair at PV," she said. "PV feels like home to me, so it was a no brainer to take the show on!"

For veteran PV Theater actors and actresses, the adjustment to a new director's style took a little time. However, Ms. Vanderstreet's guidance and commitment pulled everyone together to craft an amazing production. “The rehearsal process was a little different than what I'm used to, but I think it’s what made this experience really special and unique,” said senior Mia Preziosi. "So much was put into this show by all parties: the cast, the crew, the staff, everyone."

Preziosi has performed as a part of PV Theater since her freshmen year and feels like those she's worked with are family. "Being a senior is really surreal. I remember walking in and auditioning for Ms. Atamian for August: Osage County freshman year and thinking, 'wow', it's gonna be a little while until I'm one of those seniors," she said. "It's so hard to believe that I'm finally here. This isn't my last PV Theater production, so I'm not too sad yet. But closing night of Lend Me a Tenor, I know the waterworks will turn on."

The community is encouraged to come out and support PV Theater and their fall production. Lend Me A Tenor is a show you can’t miss. The show premieres October 24th, 25th and 26th at 7:00pm in the Schneider Auditorium. The full cast list can be found on the PV Theater website and tickets can be purchased here or at the door.
